Eagles · Analysis

The Eagles found two clean opening drives. They still need four quarters.

Philadelphia scored first in both halves Monday night, but Dallas turned the rest of the rivalry game into a 38–21 loss and another urgent test for a 2–5 team.

The Eagles opened each half against Dallas with a touchdown drive. That is the useful piece Philadelphia can carry forward from a 38–21 Monday-night loss that left the club at 2–5.

The problem is everything between those openings. Dallas controlled enough of the remaining possessions to turn a rivalry game into a three-score result. An offense cannot live on two scripted sequences, especially while the defense is being asked to keep the margin narrow.

Philadelphia's next test comes quickly: a Sunday-night trip to Washington on November 1. The work is not to invent another identity before then. It is to turn the spacing, tempo and execution from those two drives into something that survives the middle of the game.
