Philadelphia's next arena moved from an agreement and a location into something fans can finally see. The 76ers and Flyers released the first exterior renderings Tuesday for the building planned on the historic Spectrum grounds in the South Philadelphia Sports Complex.
The teams say the arena is scheduled to open in 2030. It is planned as the shared home of the Sixers and Flyers, and the announcement also identifies Philadelphia's future WNBA team as a tenant. That makes this more than a replacement building for two existing clubs; it is being positioned as the center of the city's next indoor-sports era.
The images are a design milestone, not a finished building. Construction details, transportation effects, public approvals and the surrounding district will remain part of the story between now and opening. The important change today is that the joint South Philadelphia plan has a public visual direction and a stated timeline.
The location also closes the loop on a long arena debate. The Sixers abandoned their proposed Center City project in January 2025 and entered a 50-50 venture with Comcast Spectacor to keep the new building in the stadium district. The first-look release is the clearest public picture yet of what that pivot is supposed to produce.
