Route 13 speed cameras are warning drivers starting today

A 60-day warning period for the final group of automated speed cameras along Philadelphia’s Route 13 corridor begins Monday, August 31. During that period, drivers recorded speeding will receive mailed warnings rather than fines.

The Philadelphia Parking Authority lists camera locations on Baltimore Avenue at the 6000, 5600, 4900, 4300 and 4200 blocks; the 300 block of South University Avenue; the 200 block of North 38th Street; the 400 block of North 34th Street; the 3300 block of West Girard Avenue; the 2000 block of North 33rd Street; and the 3400 block of Ridge Avenue. Directional coverage varies by location.

Official ticketing is scheduled to begin at 12:01 a.m. on October 30. The enforcement threshold is 11 mph over the posted limit, according to the PPA.

Once fines begin, the published schedule is $100 for 11 to 19 mph over, $125 for 20 to 29 mph over, and $150 for 30 mph or more over. The violations do not add points to a driver’s license.

Drivers should rely on posted roadway signs and the PPA’s current location list, not a social-media map or an old camera roundup. The warning window is useful notice, but the safest move is the same on every block: follow the posted limit now.
