Philly’s Cycling Classic returned—and delivered two sprint finishes

Professional road racing returned to Philadelphia on Sunday after a ten-year absence, and both revived Cycling Classic races came down to speed at the finish.

Italy’s Chiara Consonni won the women’s 101.9-kilometer race in a photo finish over Alexandra Volstad, with Ella Sabo third. A crash disrupted the final kilometer before Consonni completed the sprint with a bike throw at the line.

Germany’s Tim Torn Teutenberg earned the men’s title and his first professional victory. He reached the finish from a late breakaway, delivering a major result for Lidl-Trek on the familiar Philadelphia circuit.

The route brought the race back to its defining terrain, including Kelly Drive, Lemon Hill and the Manayunk Wall. That combination reconnects the new event to a history that made Philadelphia one of American cycling’s recognizable one-day stops.

One successful Sunday does not guarantee the event’s long-term future, but the return itself matters. Philadelphia again hosted an international field on city streets, and the first names in the revived winners’ list are Consonni and Teutenberg.
